REAL MADRID FACES FRANKFURT IN THE UEFA SUPER CUP


The 47th edition of the UEFA Super Cup pits Europe's most successful club against a team competing for the first time for this trophy. Vincius Jnior scored the only goal as Real Madrid defeated Liverpool at the Stade de France in May. Los Blancos won their 14th Champions League title, with five of them coming in the last nine seasons.

It capped off a historic season for Carlo Ancelotti's side, which had also reclaimed La Liga and defeated Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espaa Final. Real have only won La Liga, the European Cup, and another trophy in the same season three times before, in 1957 and 2017. The summer signings, Antonio Rüdiger and Aurélien Tchouaméni, are set to make their debuts at Helsinki Olympic Stadium, hoping to bring the Spanish giants their first silverware.

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt won their first major European trophy since 1980 at the end of last season. The Eagles won the Europa League on penalties after defeating Olympiacos, Real Betis, Barcelona, West Ham, and Rangers. This means that Oliver Glasner will lead Frankurt into the Champions League group stages for the first time, a preview of what's to come next month.

Worryingly, they welcomed Bayern Munich to Deutsche Bank Park on Friday night to kick off the new Bundesliga season. The visitors led 4-0 at halftime and went on to win 5-1. Expect goals in Helsinki, with Real Madrid heavy favourites to win their fifth UEFA Super Cup.

He also set a record by leading his team to five European Cup finals. For the first time, Eintracht Frankfurt will compete in the UEFA Super Cup. They are the fifth German club to participate in the event. Eintracht Frankfurt will face a formidable challenge against Real Madrid. Bayern Munich is the only German club to have won the Super Cup twice, in 2013 and 2020. Oliver Glasner's men won their second Europa League title with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Rangers in the final. In 1997, Frankfurt became the first Bundesliga team to win the Europa League.

The previous meeting occurred on May 18, 1960, when Real Madrid lost 7-3 to Eintracht Frankfurt in the European Cup Final at Hampden Park. That game is still regarded as one of the greatest football matchups by many football fans. It is a chance for Eintracht Frankfurt to avenge the loss suffered six decades ago.

Carlo Ancelloti recently spoke with UEFA.com about the upcoming big game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Ancelloti stated that the players' conditioning will be a challenge in the upcoming event. "We have a few more disadvantages than Eintracht, who start their season earlier," he explained, "but we'll play to win." We look forward rather than back. The victories from last year validate our beliefs, but we must now focus on the upcoming matches. There are six titles up for grabs this season, and we intend to compete for all of them.

Oliver Gasner's first season as Eintracht Frankfurt's head coach was incredible. His team started slowly, but by the end of the season, they had won the championship. He mentioned going up against Carlo Ancelloti on Wednesday. "I don't see it as a head-to-head with Carlo Ancelotti, but rather with Real Madrid, one of the greatest and most illustrious clubs in football history, who have won the Champions League five times in the last few years," Glasner said.
